Ethos & Artist Process

  • Chromakane is an artist-owned small business, independently owned and founded 2020 in London, UK and now currently based by the seaside in Brighton, UK.

  • Chromakane was founded by Jessie Cohen, an independent artist and designer from France who is currently residing in the UK. Jessie is an experimental creative who is always keen to push the boundaries of her practice, by exploring new techniques and mediums with which to evolve Chromakane’s collections.

What started as an art print business in 2020 has grown into a multi-faceted project with collections both physical and digital, including fine art on canvas and other printed medium, home textiles, fashion and apparel, jewellery, body art and tattoos, NFT and metaverse collectables, and AR experiences.

Jessie is always excited to find new opportunities for partnerships and collaborations, so get in touch to discuss!

  • To create our collections, we use a combination of techniques: in-house printing and production using archival quality materials, small screen printed runs, or made on demand. Some of our pieces, such as jewellery and hand painted garments, are one-off and unique: we’ll always look at sourcing quality supplies and findings for these items from vintage or other small business/handmade sources. We aim to keep production in-house or as local and transparent as possible, and we do not rely on mass-manufactured or dropshipping processes. Our products also undergo a rigorous in-house quality check process.

We’ll also always prioritise the most sustainable and protective packaging possible, choosing FSC certified options which are recycled, recyclable and/or compostable even down to our plastic sleeves.

Together, these solutions help us minimise our waste, simplify our processes, and keep our carbon footprint low.

  • We aren’t currently hiring, but we’re always keen to work with creatives on exciting new projects. We’d love to explore new content ideas, which inspire our collectors and connects the dots between creativity, collaboration and mental wellbeing. So please do reach out if this sounds interesting!

  • Please note, we are not a tattoo studio. Get in touch at hello@chromakane.com if you’d like to find out more about our tattooing policy and commissions, including releasing any Chromakane artwork as a higher res flash file for your own tattoo artist – we’re always excited to hear about your project!

Production Process & Materials

  • Yes, we accept certain types of commissions and bespoke order requests, based on existing products and designs from our catalogue. Find out more here, and get in touch if you have a specific query, we’d love to find out how we can help: hello@chromakane.com

  • Each fine art piece begins in-house, with an idea conceptualised by the artist which evolve from sketch to digital image. Every piece we create undergoes an in-house quality check process.

Whether print or canvas, each piece is then produced in-house using archival quality materials, from printing inks to papers, then stamp embossed for authenticity. These materials are designed to resist deterioration and fading over time. Archival quality may vary depending on the art techniques used: giclée printing, lino printing, riso or screen printing, spray painting on canvas, hand finished embellishing.

Giclée prints larger than A3+ and prints with special foil or metallic finishes are outsourced to trusted print partners, then quality checked and embossed in-house.

  • Our home textiles – cushions, throws, dish towels – are designed in-house by the artist from sketch to digital image, then manufactured locally by our trusted London-based print partner. Every piece we create undergoes an in-house quality check process.

Everything is also made on demand, meaning that our products virtually do not exist until an order is placed. This helps us minimise our waste, simplify our processes, and keep our carbon footprint low.

  • Our apparel collections – tees, hoodies, tote bags, accessories and unique hand painted pieces – are designed in-house by the artist, from sketch to final image. Every piece we create undergoes an in-house quality check process.

Certain pieces are produced as either one-of one-collectables (such as vintage hand painted pieces) or limited edition screen printed runs using eco-friendly inks. Locally sourced materials and production methods are always prioritised.

Other items are manufactured by our trusted print partners, located globally to help us keep order production and fulfilment as local to you as possible. Everything is also made on demand, meaning that our products virtually do not exist until an order is placed. This helps us minimise our waste, simplify our processes, and keep our carbon footprint low.

Please refer to individual product details for more information.

  • Our jewellery pieces – earrings, bracelets and necklaces – are unique one-off designs, conceptualised and assembled in-house by the artist. Every piece we create undergoes an in-house quality check process.

We work with our hand-picked selection of quality metal and stone findings, sourced from small and artisan businesses around the world. We are careful to select hypoallergenic, nickel and lead free materials from transparent sources, and we use a range of gold filled, 925 sterling silver and brass pieces.

Please refer to individual product details for more information and suitability for sensitive skin.
