Oceanus

A London-based luxury brand creating bold, playful and sustainable swimwear collections for the free-spirited traveller.

A woman with short blonde hair and light blue eye makeup is standing in front of a mirror with her hand raised to her ear. She is wearing a black swimsuit with colorful floral and fruit patterns. The mirror is surrounded by various colorful and gold decorative elements, including a yellow and blue parrot, a fish, and other abstract designs.

The challenge

Oceanus was looking for a solution to break the mould online, through a bold website which would match the playful and expressive energy the brand’s collections and social media presence were already portraying.

The solution

Contracted by Axe & Kettle as a freelance designer, and working collaboratively with the brand’s founder Hannah Attalah, we worked on a punch web design solution for desktop and mobile, injecting cheeky visual details across each part of the user experience around Oceanus’ then collection Casa Del Duckie.

Scope

Brand design, Creative direction, Digital design, Logo design, Web (UI) design

Collage of retro-styled photographs of women, including one in a swimsuit, another relaxing in a bath, and a woman reading a magazine with sunglasses and a towel on her head. The collage features the text 'OCEANUS' and 'UNAPOLOGETIC,' along with a cassette tape labeled 'FUCK YOU.'

The project began with a brand deep-dive and user research study, looking at opportunities for brand positioning & expression.

Row of images of different fish and aquatic animals, including a whale, goldfish in a bowl, colorful fish, swans forming a heart shape, and a parrot.
Two desktop computer screens display fashion website pages. The left screen features a tropical theme with a woman in a dress and text about protecting the planet, decorated with flowers and palm leaves. The right screen shows a fashion site with a woman sitting on a sofa, surrounded by plants, with text about a spring/summer collection.
Three computer screens displaying swimwear and fashion images, with models showcasing swimsuits and a collage of photos in a beach theme.
Collection of five colorful digital magazine or website screenshot pages featuring swimwear, fashion, and lifestyle imagery with tropical and pastel theme design elements.

Design takeaways

  • Injecting playfulness at every point of the user journey. Oceanus is an inherently expressive, female-led brand with eclectic swimwear collections – and its digital identity and presence needed to reflect this. From custom animated cursors to framing devices for imagery, eclectic branding helped create immersion into the Oceanus world. In this case, design decisions were made to create a visual language of brave novelty rather than minimalist consistency.
